Ӷapp celebrates first set of GCSE results /didsbury-high-school-celebrates-first-set-of-gcse-results/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 12:57:30 +0000 /?p=11989

Ӷapp received their first set of GCSE results this summer and could not be prouder of the students’ achievements. 60% of students achieved at least a grade 5 (strong pass) in both English and Maths where, for comparison, the 2023 national average was 45%.

On top of this, nearly 40% of the school’s grades were grade 7 or higher. This is particularly impressive considering the range of academically rich subjects that the students were entered for with almost 90% of students being entered for the English Baccalaureate.

Ӷapp’s Year 9 GCSE language results were once again, phenomenal. Over 75% of the grades were at least a 5 (strong pass) and almost 50% were grade 7 or above. For comparison, 55% of students who have chosen to study a language at GCSE nationally achieve at least a 5. The school’s language GCSE results continue to impress and exceed national averages.

Katie Houghton, Head of School, commended students and staff by saying:

“These results are a testament to the hard work that our students and staff have dedicated over the last five years. The overwhelming support from our parents and carer community has been fundamental to this success. Best of luck to our Year 11 leavers in their future endeavours and we look forward to welcoming many of you back into the Sixth Form in September.”

David Woolley, Executive Head of School, added:

We knew that our students would make us proud with what they would achieve from the moment they started with us. This was true during our first Ofsted inspection in January where they were part of the team that secured Outstanding judgements in all areas. However, these results are the real testament to all the hard work and dedication our Year 11s have put into their studies. We couldn’t be prouder!”.

Sixth Form students exceed national attainment measures /sixth-form-students-exceed-national-attainment-measures/ Thu, 15 Aug 2024 11:08:49 +0000 /?p=11968

Students of Mathematics at Didsbury Sixth Form are today celebrating their AS Further Mathematics results and Level 3 Qualification in Core Mathematics.

Through hard work and dedication from students, staff and our parent/carer community, the founding cohort’s results have exceeded national attainment measures. 80% of Core Mathematics students achieved either an A or B with 100% getting A-C. Additionally, the Further Mathematicians excelled, with the vast majority of grades being either an A or B. A huge well done.

Tom Theobold, Director of Sixth Form and Deputy Head at Ӷapp said:

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements, which sets a remarkable standard as their A Level journey continues next year. This outstanding success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of all students, teachers, and parents, who have committed to our vision and our Unashamedly Academic ethos.”

Didsbury Sixth Form opened in September 2023 as an academic, A Level only Sixth Form. The vision is that Didsbury Sixth Form students achieve the grades to access the futures of their choice, including accessing the most competitive and prestigious universities and professions.

Didsbury Sixth Form welcomes students for September 2024 entry to register on GCSE results day. More information can be found under the Sixth Form section of our website.

Ӷapp rated Outstanding by Ofsted, in the school’s first ever report /didsbury-high-school-rated-outstanding-by-ofsted-in-the-schools-first-ever-report/ Mon, 11 Mar 2024 10:47:59 +0000 /?p=11316

Ӷapp has officially been rated Outstanding by Ofsted in the school’s first ever report. A team of inspectors visited the school on the 30th and 31st January 2024, to carry out a two-day inspection and rated the school Outstanding across all areas, including the Sixth Form.

The inspectors stated that students ‘benefit from the school’s aspirational approach to their education’ and highlighted how ‘staff are immensely happy to work here.’ They also commended how ‘the school prioritises pupils’ academic excellence, their personal development’ and how students, ‘including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), experience an exceptional curriculum that enables them to learn and to achieve exceedingly well.’

During the visit, inspectors spent time in the Sixth Form, which only opened its doors to the first cohort of A Level students in September 2023. Within the report the team of inspectors praised how ‘students in the Sixth Form are particularly diligent and studious’ and how ‘they are very positive role models for younger pupils.’

Katie Houghton, Head of School, said:

“I am delighted to be able to share the outcome of our Ofsted report. We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome, which reflects the hard work and brilliance of our students, staff and whole school community. This report is a fair representation of what Ӷapp is like – it is a joy to read – and we continue to move forward ‘determined that no limits are placed on what pupils can achieve’.

The report goes on to praise the students and staff across a range of areas, which includes:

  • Staff expertly design activities that help students to understand new content.
  • Students are incredibly proud of the diversity in their school.
  • Students value that they see themselves reflected in the curriculum. This sense of belonging helps students to feel happy in school.
  • Students take an active role within the school community.
  • Staff expertly design activities that help students to understand new content.
  • The atmosphere in the school is calm and orderly.

Help and support over the summer holidays /help-and-support-over-the-summer-holidays/ Mon, 25 Jul 2022 11:44:27 +0000 /?p=8686

We hope that all of our students have an enjoyable summer break, but understand that this period can be challenging for some. If students are worried or upset about anything over the holiday period then we recommend the following three steps:

  1. Contact ‘’, an excellent online mental health support platform
  2. Contactwho can provide confidential and professional support
  3. You can also email enquiries@didsburyhighschool.org.uk. Staff will have limited access to their email until near the start of term, so if a student needs help urgently, please use one of the first two options above.
